Engineering Physics students chosen to present at the 73rd International Astronautical Congress

Congratulations Rhiannon Evans and Charles Lee, chosen to present at the 73rd International Astronautical Congress, September 18 – 22, 2022 in Paris, France.

Charles Lee:   “Attending IAC was an incredible experience as someone interested in aerospace engineering! I got to present work under UBC Orbit, network with space agencies and companies from around the world, and meet fellow young professionals interested in space. The conference itself was huge (5 days, 3 floors) and it was a bit overwhelming at times, but it was really amazing to see all the growth that is happening in the space sector. (And, of course, I got to visit Paris)

Charles Lee, member of UBC Orbit, presents his poster

There were a lot of cool companies each doing different things ranging from building optical circuits to metal 3D printing to software platforms, so it was kind of like looking at EngPhys as a degree realized in an industry. I never thought my work would be important enough to present at an international conference, and yet it was accepted, so it was an eye-opening experience to say the least. I would highly encourage other Fizzers to look for similar opportunities and present at a research conference if you get the chance!”

Rhiannon Evans was selected to present her research at the Conference:  “It was a wonderful opportunity to meet people within the industry and learn from them. While I was at the conference, I was given a lot of freedom to explore all kinds of fascinating research and technologies, I felt like there were no closed doors and it was impossible to walk out of the conference without having learned something new.”

L-R: Dagan Schoen (Electrical Engineering), Joya Yamagishi (Chemical and Biological Engineering), Rhiannon Evans (Engineering Physics), Alyona Glazyrina (Mechanical Engineering), and Douglas Zhu (Electrical Engineering)
