Students may enter Engineering Physics from first year Science, Science One, or Applied Science at UBC or one of the local transfer colleges. Typically, students apply for and enroll in first year Applied Science directly from Grade 12, and apply to the Engineering Physics Program during the first year of studies at UBC.
Students in first year Science or Science One may wish to consult with the director to ensure a smooth transition into Applied Science.
Please direct inquiries concerning placement into engineering programs to Engineering Student Services, Faculty of Applied Science, the Fred Kaiser Building, 2332 Main Mall, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z4, phone 604 822-6556.
Admission to the Program is based on the student’s prior academic performance combined with broad-based evaluation in the form of an in-person interview.
In Engineering Physics we strongly believe that marks and written statements alone do not provide us with the full picture of whether a student is suited for our program, or whether the Program is the best one to achieve a particular student’s goals. Consequently, we wish to meet all applicants in person prior to placement in second year with the purpose of ensuring that there is a good fit between an applicant’s goals and skills, and the Program’s curriculum and demands. In the meeting, we will assess the applicant’s motivation, preparation, and need for entry into our program, as well as try to answer any questions the applicant may have to ensure they are well informed with respect to the challenges associated with Engineering Physics. The meeting will supplement the written personal statement, which is part of the second year placement form, to help us select applicants. Ultimately, we hope that this process will help students make a well informed choice, and maximize students’ satisfaction with the Program. Students can book their interview time from this web site in late March.
Admission to UBC is handled by Enrolment Services.
