2nd place finish at GenQ Quantum Hackathon in Singapore

Congratulations Jack Polloway, Alissa Huynh, Edward Ashenhurst and Faraz Fasihzadeh at the Quantum AI Hackathon in Singapore in October, 2025! Their team placed in the top 10 overall, out of 30 teams.

Jack Polloway:   “Representing Engineering Physics in Singapore is an experience I will never forget. We took a weekend off in the middle of the semester to compete in a Hackathon focused on quantum computing principles and AI to solve modern problems in finance; including, portfolio optimization, fraud detection, and counterparty credit risk.

We tackled counterparty credit risk which focused on how to model and predict option portfolio exposure in complex financial portfolios.

After 48 hours of researching, building, and pitching, we placed 2nd in our category!

It was my first hackathon, but easily one of the most fun, challenging, and rewarding experiences I’ve had. Learning from industry professionals in quantum computing and finance from Microsoft, DBS Bank, and IonQ was an incredible opportunity. As well, pitching our ideas alongside Masters students and Ph.D. Candidates from around the world was truly inspiring and made this experience unforgettable.”
